Earthquake Aftermath

On September 19th the Earth moved, the ground opened up, and Mexico came together as one.
This installation is my homage to my city and those brave volunteers

who worked selflessly during the aftermath of the 2017 earthquake. The piece reflects the moment when the rescuers raised their fists (the signal for silence) and in absolute quiet a man came out of the rubble in a stretcher. The puno en alto instalacion was created with rumble and waste tanken form the sites, the figures made out of rusted wire, standing on rocks represent the destruction and the composition represent the generosity and selflessness of the volunteers, the neon vests on the figures were cut off from the vest I used those nights, a symbol of my own experience.

The installation consists of photos taken on site which were placed around the figures to accurately demonstrate the earthquake’s aftermath and subsequent rescue efforts.
