Sisal
Vegan Material
Henequen is a beautiful material for design due to its color and resistance. Its fiber is generally considered too tough for textiles and fabrics. Like henequen, natural latex is also an environmentally sustainable material. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties, and it is water-resistant. The combination of latex and henequen makes for a versatile, flexible and 100% biodegradable material with excellent design potential. The project is socially responsible as it provides employment for indigenous artisans who can use the fabric to create a product for which they will receive fair compensation.

My inspiration for the use of this fabric came from my collaboration with two Mayan artisans. Their abilities, techniques and knowledge were essential for my understanding of the material and its potential. I was able to express my ideas and create products that are modern with clean lines, but at the same time, rooted in tradition and respectful of the environment.
